"L'avvento di David Gilmour"
In ‘The Piper at the Gates of Dawn’ otto brani su undici portano la firma esclusiva di Syd Barrett oltre ad altri due in compartecipazione con la band; uno soltanto in ‘A Saucerful of Secrets’, dove appare timidamente per la prima volta anche la firma di David Gilmour nella title-track.
Con la pubblicazione dello ’Scrigno di Segreti’, il 29 giugno 1968, la fotosintesi è compiuta, la germinazione della nuova pianta Pink Floyd si completa proprio dopo la ‘ribollitura’ dei minuti finali della title-track che dà vita al coro finale, la ‘voce celestiale’ che – come di un cherubino – annuncia un nuovo inizio, verso un futuro che sarà comunque memore del fresco passato.
La ‘voce celestiale’ – come di cherubino – che, accanto alle altre, contribuisce alla germinazione è quella che fluisce dalla chitarra di David Gilmour in primis e, in secundis, dalla sua ugola, come ben dimostra proprio la ‘Celestial Voice’ di un anno dopo in ‘Ummagumma’.
Quanta linfa ha apportato il chitarrismo gilmouriano alla pianta pinkfloydiana appena germinata?
Come cambia il suono Pink Floyd con l’avvento di David Gilmour?
E, ancor prima, come David Gilmour rivisita il repertorio e il chitarrismo barrettiano, dovendolo necessariamente reinterpretare nella dimensione live?
Il materiale audio e video del vol. 2 di ‘The Early Years 1965 – 1972’ prova ad offrire risposte a queste domande, fondamentali per la comprensione del suono Pink Floyd post-Barrett, il cui spirito – tuttavia – aleggerà per sempre sulla band.
